Housed within the renowned Lincoln Center in midtown Manhattan, the Metropolitan Opera has been one of the world's premier opera companies since its inception in 1883. The opera house is renowned for presenting first-rate performances featuring many of the world's most revered artists. And the company itself provides superior orchestral and choral musicians, a large repertoire of work, and the resources to make performances available to the public, whether on stage, radio, or screen.

The opera season runs over the course of 32 weeks. During that period, the opera house stages more than 200 performances, with a total of 800,000 in attendance. This, of course, is not including the millions of others that experience the opera on television or radio.

A highlight of the opera house is the recently introduced "Met Titles" feature: computerized screens that are mounted on the backs of the spectator seats to provide each person with their own opera-translation monitor.

The Metropolitan Opera Guild offers backstage tours, which generally occur from October through June at around 3:30 p.m. on weekdays and Sundays at 10:30a.m. To get more information and to reserve a space, call 212-769-7020 Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Eastern Time.
